Chattisgarh District Poverty Reduction Project (CGDPRP)

1.Concept of the Project:

The 'Nawa Anjor' (Chhattisgarh District Poverty Reduction Project) funded by World Bank is being implemented as the major Poverty Alleviation Initiative of Government of Chhattisgarh. The CGDPRP will be implemented in about 2000 Gram Panchayats in 40 blocks of 16 Districts of Chhattisgarh. The project believes in working through Common Interest Group (CIG) of the poor; in particular women,the tribal people and other vulnerable sections of society.

2.Objective of the Project:

The main objective of the project is to support the poorest of the poor (especially SC, ST and women), strengthen and secure their asset base, to improve income generation opportunities and quality of life.

The project is being  implemented with the following objectives:

  • To create infrastructure and income generation opportunities for rural poor.
  • To empower active groups of disadvantaged people and
  • To support Panchayat Raj institutions especially Gram Panchayats in becoming responsive and effective in planning and implementing various government schemes.

3. Role of J.K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana in CGDPRP:

J.K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana is operating a Project Facilitation Team (PFT) in a cluster of 42 Gram Panchayats of  Kurud  block of District Dhantari  with the following objectives: 

  • To facilitate the weaker section of community to organize in CIGs.
  • To support the CIGs to formulate proposals for activities to be undertaken by them.
  • To prepare sub-projects and help CIGs in adopting mitigating measures.
  • To help CIGs in establishing linkages with the banks, government offices, market and mandis etc.
  • To ensure training of CIGs in project preparation, project management, accounting and book keeping.
  • Monitoring of sub-projects and documentation.

4. Progress report upto March 2009:

a) 429 Common Interest Groups (CIGs) have been formed and sanctioned, out of which 41 are managed by women.
