Success Stories

  • Venkat Reddy, a farmer from Velligallu Village, purchased a Crossbred cow with her female calf in March 2000.

  • Around the same time, J. K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana established its ILD centre at Velligallu village. He took advice and services rendered by 'Gopal' and Rural Development Officers of the J. K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana. The original cow he purchased in March 2000 produced 3 calves in the span of 3 years. The female calf that came with her mother also matured, was artificially inseminated and gave birth to another 2 heifer calves.

  • Most of his animals got pregnant through the very first artificial insemination (A.I). The first female born to the original cow also conceived following A.I and gave birth to one more heifer calf. Likewise the heifer born to the purchased heifer also became pregnant.

  • In three years, he was able to expand his dairy farm to a herd size of 8 from his initial 2 animals. Their present total value is about Rs.50,000/- (US $1,100). Now, the farmer has 3 cows and 5 heifers.

  • During this three year period he was able to produce approximately 16,200 litres of milk worth about Rs. 1,62,000/- (US $ 3,600). Both the cows had an average production of 2,400 litres in their first lactation and he made a net profit of Rs. 1,11,000/- (US $ 2,500) and was able to fulfill his family responsibilities like the marriage of his two daughters .

This is a model to show practically, how proper breeding management can change the entire economic situation of the rural population.

The efforts taken by Mr. K. Venkata Ramana, the 'Gopal', who has had a continuous record of excellent service, was honoured with the title of  'Best Gopal' in the District. The Veterinarians of the J. K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana have catalyzed all efforts at grass root level.

Note: The conversion of Rs. to US $ is considered on the basis of current exchange rate.
